Relic Rupture Review
Reviewed by Scott Cahan 7/4/23
Relic Rupture, by EDD Jordan, is about people in a tight-knit community affected by a mysterious bench in life-altering ways. I won’t give away what happens, but I think it’s safe to say time travel is involved, albeit not in any way I’ve ever seen in movies or books. Although the bench is the object that causes most of the conflict, the real focus of this book is the people and how they cope with difficult circumstances in their lives. The central character, Jack, the contractor responsible for building the new airport terminal that all of the characters work in, is called on by many of the others for help. One by one, they are all affected by the powers of the bench. As the story goes on, the conflicts begin to overlap and Jack finds it difficult to help each of his friends and spend time with Kourin, the new romantic interest in his life.
Relic Rupture is a powerful read that somehow manages to present a large cast of characters and develop every single one of them in a deep and meaningful way. By the end of the book, I felt like I’d known each character my whole life and had become good friends with them all. I was extremely impressed with the author’s skill at character development. Even more impressive was the way the characters' stories all connect and affect each other like a masterfully sewn quilt. The supernatural element, represented by the bench, is also pretty cool. The scenes with the bench were subtle and colorful, adding to the overall beauty of Relic Rupture. This is part one of the Benchmark Legacy series. I can’t wait to read part two because Relic Rupture tells a story that is so unlike anything I’ve ever read or seen that I have no idea where the story is going. I love to be surprised, so well done to EDD Jordan. I highly recommend Relic Rupture.

Relic Rapture by EDD Jordan is Book 2 in the Benchmark Legacy Series about a group of people caught up in a tangled web of traveling backward, and occasionally forward, in time. Whereas book one sets the stage by introducing us to the main characters and the mysterious wooden bench, Relic Rapture is the main event with time travel escapades galore. As the story begins, Jack and his new love interest, Kourin, and several others are already dealing with the effects of the bench. Although they all try to stay away from the bench, several group members are still drawn to it. Before long, Jack, Kourin, Mandy, Laurel, and her dog Ubu find themselves in the past with little understanding of why they are all there. Soon, old sins are relived and Jack and the crew learn the hard way that changing the past never comes without devastating consequences for the present.
Fans of time travel should take note: Relic Rapture by EDD Jordan is a time travel tale at its finest. The reader will become dizzy at times as they are carried forward and backward, deep into the past and present lives of the characters. Time travel is never treated as a fun excursion here, but always as a serious life-altering event. What sets Relic Rapture apart from other time travel novels is the way it puts such emphasis on its diverse cast of characters, human and canine. The characters each have fully developed personalities including strengths and flaws. Their relationships with one another are also shown in intricate detail. By the time the characters end up in trouble, we already care about them deeply, thanks to the author's superb writing. Fans of complex time travel tales involving strong characters will find much to love in Relic Rapture.
Relic Rapture reviews:
From Joe Yamulla, BookBaby Bookshop Manager
Edd Jordan took readers on a wild ride in the first book of the Benchmark Legacy Series, and now he is back with another instant classic. Relic Rapture is a brilliant sequel that lives up to expectations!
In the story, an ancient wooden bench in the Benchmark airport unveils a world of unforeseen chaos. It has power unlike anything in this world – and forces anyone who sits on it to experience visions from the past and future, painting a fascinating but also terrifying picture. The tale then weaves together the lives of several friends, drawn together by the bench’s powerful visions, as they race against time to prevent tragedy and impending catastrophe. Filled with action, adventure, and intrigue, this compelling story explores the consequences of choices and the lengths we go to preserve reality.
An incredible story to read, and a meaningful book that supports a great cause, I highly recommend you add this novel to your reading list. When you purchase Relic Rapture, 25% of the proceeds are donated to Second Chance Ranch Rescue in New Boston, New Hampshire. It’s the perfect read for fiction lovers and dog lovers (like me!).
