Tala’s Story
How I became a Rescue!
A heart-wrenching sight greeted a compassionate individual as she uncovered a litter of puppies huddled together in a rundown crack house in Texas. The air was heavy with the stench of neglect and despair, as the dilapidated walls bore witness to the tragic fate of these innocent creatures.
Undeterred by the heartbreak that surrounded her, the courageous woman named April stepped forward, determined to rescue the dogs from their dire circumstances. In an old car barely able to run, Momma Willow, only one and half years old herself, cared for her pups as best she could. With no air conditioning from the sweltering Texas heat during the day nor the harsh cold of the evenings, her pups endured each passing day. To add to the already overwhelming situation, fate brought two additional puppies into the pack. Surprisingly, amidst this chaos, April discovered that these two young dogs were pregnant, their bellies swollen with life despite their tender age.
Embracing the weight of this immense responsibility, April selflessly devoted herself to providing the innocent dogs with the care and love they so desperately needed, vowing to do her best. Despite the dangerous and less than ideal conditions, it was crucial for the puppies to stay with momma Willow.
April already had a dozen dogs at home, each at different stages of fostering. Despite living an hour away, she made it a priority to provide the puppies with the medical attention they needed. On each trip to the veterinarian, she willingly used her own money to pay for the increasing expenses.
It was a cruel day when April's worst nightmare became a reality with a disturbing phone call. The puppies were sick. An area vet fought bravely to save the puppies, but sadly, two of them succumbed to the cruel grip of poisoning.
With April's distant but nurturing presence, the remaining dogs miraculously pulled through. Thirteen pups were born to the pair of pregnant dogs in the days that followed. What had started as a modest litter of five was now transformed into a bustling pack of twenty-two. As more mouths needed to be fed, the situation grew increasingly desperate. Out of the twenty-two dogs, three mysteriously vanished without a trace. The puppies' lives were teetering on the edge of disaster, their future at stake. Despite April’s tireless efforts, her pleas for assistance fell on deaf ears as various dog rescues cited their overwhelming caseloads, unable to provide aid.
Just as hope waned, a glimmer of light emerged from Second Chance Ranch Rescue in NH. With their resources stretched thin, they bravely offered to take in three of the dogs, exemplifying remarkable kindness despite their own limitations. Among the saved pups was Tala, a one-year-old bundle of love and potential. With her striking mix of possibly Bernese Mountain and Border Collie, her presence radiated warmth and affection, evident through her gentle demeanor and the rhythmic wagging of her tail.
Angie and I warmly embraced Tala and welcomed her into our home, our hearts overflowing with emotion.
The sight of Tala’s wagging tail and the sound of her joyful barks now fill the air, a testament to the resilience and unwavering spirit of these remarkable creatures.
Hi! I’m Tala.
Here I am with my “sister” Mabel. She was adopted shortly after I was at Second Chance Ranch Rescue - NH.
I quickly discovered I am a lap dog! Dad let’s me cuddle with him all the time!
Here I am the day I arrived at my new home with Mom and my new friend, Mack!
I absolutely love Mom. I’m still trying to be friends with Mack. What’s a little barking between friends?!
